Consultancy services - implementation of inspection scheme for river lime 2014

The Norwegian Environment Agency coordinates the river liming that is carried out in Norway in order to counteract the effects of acid rain. As a part of this an inspection scheme was established in 1996 for river lime, the purpose of which is to inspect that the lime that is delivered is of the agreed and approved quality. Analyses of lime samples are taken in the inspection scheme from lime works/lime stores and test samples from the lime delivered on site and analysis statistics and turnover statistics are prepared and published for the lime delivered for river liming (annual statistics booklet). The Norwegian Environment Agency has a contract with a laboratory for the analysis and preparation of the statistics. In addition the inspection scheme includes follow up and inspection of the lime supplier's internal control and declaration of lime products. In 2013 the inspection scheme was expanded to also include the inspection of a sodium silicate product that is used in some rivers to counteract the effects of acid rain.
