Oslo has the aim that cycling will be an attractive and safe means of transport. In addition, the city has adopted a goal of a cycling share of 1 2% in 2015. To achieve these objectives, there is a need for a broad focus on cycling and a new strategy will add key recommendations for this work.
The assignment consists of four parts:
1. The mapping of Oslo's cyclists.
2. Evaluation of the cycle strategy for Oslo 2005-2015.
3. The overall evaluation of the main network of cycling roads.
4. Measures to increase the cycling proportion beyond the construction of bicycling paths.
A new cycling strategy shall be prepared for Oslo for the period between 2015-2025. The aim of the strategy is to make cycling a safe and attractive means of transport thus making it a natural choice of transport on as many journeys as possible, improving the interaction between the different road user groups and reducing the level of conflict between the traffic of the different road user groups so that additional users use bicycles as means of transportation and thus relieves the road system and some pressure for the public transport system. To achieve this requires an understanding of who the Oslo cyclist is currently and who are the potential Oslo cyclist in the future.
