The awarding authority, Nordland county, is responsible for:

— the education sector, which has 16 sixth form colleges within the county's borders with approx. 10 000 pupils and 3 000 employees. There is a total of more than 50 large and small buildings. The total area is approx. 250 000 m

— the public dental service with 80 dental clinics and approx. 400 employees,

— the arts department with two libraries and several small buildings. Approx. 200 employees,

— the central administration with approx. 400 employees in two ofifice buildings in the centre of Bodø.

Most of these entities would like the awarding authority to procure a wireless network.

System description

The system shall cover all colleges and the central administration, with an option for an expansion tno all entities. The system shall be able to be scaled up to cover the need for all pupils, employees and others, which means that the number can be approx. 15 000 persons. Tenderers shall state the number of users and the number of devices that the offered system can handle.

The system shall function in premises with a user number that varies from one person (office) to up to more than one hundred in the same room (gym halls, auditoriums, canteens).

A minimum of five years lifetime is required for the offered system with the possibility of supplementary procurements and the expansion of the system in the period.

Coverage requirements

General radio coverage is required in work rooms, offices, libraries, canteens and communal areas where there is a normal density of users.

In teaching rooms, auditoriums etc. there is a requirement for high service and redundant radio coverage.

The system shall be able to be adapted to give each user a real bandwidth of a minimum of 10 Mbps in normal operation in areas with high user density.

Current situation

The infrastructure is based on fibre with 150 Mbps capacity for college buildings and other large units and 2-8 Mbps SDSL for dental clinics and other small units.

The local network supports the requirements that the current wireless network has as regards electricity supply (POE) and ethernet-ports. Tenderers can, in their tender, presume that the awarding authority covers the requirements for new access points. When necessary, switcher will be upgraded to gigabit and possiby POE+ if the offered system requires it. The awarding authority currently has a system wtih wireless network from HP that was purchased in 2006 with central access control servers and distributed access control modules. The system has approx. 1 000 radio points in college buildings and at the central administration.

Two college buildings have in addition more recent installations from Meru.

Four colleges have relatively modern equipment from Trapeze/Juniper.

The existing equipment shall be reused in the new system if it is technically possible.

Tenderers shall have the financial ability to handle a contract of this size. Tenderers must have had an A-rating or better at AAA Soliditet in the last two years.

It is not necessary to send documentation. The awarding authority will obtain a rating report from AAA Soliditet.

Teknisk og faglig kapasitet: A technical ability to fulfil the contract is required.
