13/1915 Evaluation assignment, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate geophysical surveys

The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has a central function in the administration of the oil and gas resources at the Norwegian continental shelf and is an important advisory body for the Norwegian Ministry of Petroleum and Energy, henceforth referred to as the Awarding Authority, in relation to petroleum activities. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate is an administrative authority in connection with area allotments, surveys for and extraction of petroleum deposits at the shelf. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate also has a national responsibility for data from the continental shelf and has an overview and communication role when it comes to data, analyses and decision basis.
As a part of the works with improving the overview of possible petroleum resources on the Norwegian shelf and opening of new areas for petroleum activities, the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate implements mapping, geophysical and geological data acquisition on the continental shelf. The surveys are financed through allocations in the government budget. In the future, the collected data can be made available for the industry through sales of data packages.
The Awading Authority uses assessments in order to obtain information of efficiency, goal achievements and results for the entire or parts of the Awarding Authority's area of responsibility and activities. The Awarding Authority now requests assistance for implementing an external evaluation of the Norwegian Petroleum Directorate's surveys.
