Software for 3D-Visualization of Geological Data and Models

Geological Survey of Norway (NGU)

The Geological Survey of Norway (NGU) is responsible for Norway's national geological databases and for conveying geological knowledge to society. NGU is developing 3D-models for Norway's geology and has a need to visualize these with regard to both its own R&D and for better communication with users. This need for a 3D-visualization tool includes both software that can integrate a broad spectrum of datasets, models etc., and the possibility for virtual-reality presentation to groups (Internet conferencing, theater setting). NGU wants now first to acquire the software for 3D-visualization, with the following requirements.
The bidding will be treated as 'competitive with negotiation'.
Technical requirements.
— true high-resolution 3D/4D stereo visualization incl. real-time interaction with data,
— dynamic linking to ESRI ArcGIS,
— easy to 'fly through' and change scale,
— integrate very large volumes of data from multiple sources,
— import datasets, files, models, images etc. with different formats,
— edit, digitise, adding features on the fly and save these changes,
— view surface and sub-surface data simultaneously,
— construct geological cross-sections and correlate borehole data,
— real-time visualization of 4D-models (voxel-based),
— running on stand-alone computers and able to link for conferencing,
— useable in virtual-reality presentation to larger groups (theater setting),
— english user language.

NGU requires that the suppliers of goods and services have the capacity to send their invoices and credit notes electronically in accordance with the standard "Electronic Trade Format" (Elektronisk handelsformat-EHF).
