Monitoring atmospheric deposition - hazardous substances

The objective of monitoring atmospheric inputs of hazardous substances is:
— report measured levels of selected hazardous substances in air and/or precipitation at 3 monitoring stations in Norway,
— report and provide information of alterations in levels and inputs of hazardous substances in air and/or precipitation over time,
— with the support of modelling, identify the source areas/source regions for inputs of hazardous substances to Norway; calculate the contribution from various sources (e.g. industry, traffic, forest fire),
— estimate the significance of atmospheric long-distance transport of hazardous substances as source of pollution in Norway,
— explain the level of hazardous substances in other sections of the environment and in biota, particularly in the Arctic regions,
— assess the effect of measures and international agreements regarding emission calculations and clarify if further measures are required in order to strengthen the existing agreements,
— assess and describe the alterations in inputs as a possible result of the climatic changes.
