Main contract, bath and cultural centre

Alstahaug kommune

Summer 2010 Alstahaug municipality, henceforth referred to as the Awarding Authority, published a design contest for architects regarding design of a new bath and cultural centre for Sandnessjøen. Autumn 2010 a jury appointed by the Awarding Authority the design “Himmelblå” was selected as the winner of the competition. Bath, cultural centre and leasehold functions are assembled in one simple rectangular main design. This is given a distinctive wavy line routing which attempts to express contours and landscape formations in the coast of Helgeland. The tripartition in a fixed foundation with room for the buildings technical rooms and cinema, an open glass volume for the most extrovert functions, shall express the team of Sandnessjøen; landscape with the city, sky and sea.
