S2011/95 Further development of ICT – Systems for the alerting service VIPS and LMT

The internet service VIPS (Alerting within plant pest infestation), regarding alerting attacks, development and surveillance of important plant pest infestation, is developed by the Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and environmental research and the Norwegian agricultural advisory services. The first version of the service was put into operation in 2001.
The basis for alerts regarding risk of harm is climatic data from the Norwegian Institute for Agricultural and environmental research (the Awarding Authority) and weather prognosis from the Norwegian Meteorological Institute, biological data (registration of the development of the local pest infestation), damage thresholds and models for development of pest infestation and host plants.
LMT (Agricultural Meteorological Service) is a project arranged by the Awarding Authority. The service has been in operation since the beginning of the nineties. The main purpose of the project has been to obtain climatic data for use in connection pest infestation alerts. During the growing season, the project operates 75 automatic climatic stations. These stations are located in agricultural districts in various parts of Norway. 50 of these stations are year-round operations.
The Awarding Authority wishes to enter into a multi-annual agreement.
