The ocean research laboratories at Tyholt in Trondheim were established in 1937, and have been expanded a number of times since then. Since 2005 the knowledge environments and industry have worked with purpose to upgrade and modernise the laboratories. The general aim has been, and is, to realise a centre that will ensure value creation for Norway through competitive Norwegian ocean space industries. The Norwegian Ocean Technology Centre (previously Ocean Space Centre (OSC) is a joint name for the marine laboratories.
The Norwegian Ocean Technology Centre consists of specialised laboratories with particularly highly specialised user equipment. In addition an office building and teaching premises are to be established for SINTEF and NTNU at Tyholt in Trondheim. The laboratories consist of wet laboratories such as a sea pool, a rough sea pool, as well as dry laboratories such as structure and engine laboratories. The project received a start-up grant for 2022 and is now in the execution phase.

Statsbygg requests in connection with project no.: 1107304/-05 Norwegian Ocean Technology Centre (previously Ocean Space Centre),
requests tenders for a SHA coordinator for the execution phase (KU) and a SHA coordinator for the execution phase (KP).
Statsbygg is the builder for the new ocean technology centre at Tyholt and cooperates closely with NTNU and SINTEF as users. The centre will include both research activities for SINTEF and teaching and research activities for NTNU in marine engineering.
